Pottery Taster – Wheel Throwing & Pinch Pots

Join ceramicist Jessica Cooper Ceramics for a hands-on pottery workshop where you’ll get to try out two classic clay techniques. Begin with a 30-minute guided wheel throwing experience, where Jessica will support you in centering and shaping clay on the wheel it into your very own bowl. You will then have 30 minutes of hand building, making a pinch pot using just your hands and a few simple tools. You’ll also get to play around with mark making to add your own personal touch and texture to your piece. It’s a relaxed, creative session perfect for beginners. You will get to choose the glaze for your bowls and Jessica will fire up to 2 pieces which you will be able to pick up from The Threshing Barn at a later date. All materials and firing is included in the price.

Jessica will be running the workshops from 1.00pm - 4.00pm. There will be staggered starts to enable each participant to get 1:1 tuition from Jessica. There will be 2 tickets available every hour and you will swap over activities after 30 minutes. You don't need to buy both tickets for the hour slot to attend. Just purchase your own. If you are coming with a friend purchase 2 tickets for the same hour slot. This workshop is for up to 6 people only.

About Jessica Cooper Ceramics

Jessica Cooper is a potter and ceramics teacher based in Alston, Cumbria, where she creates tableware and home goods. Her work draws inspiration from the natural world, incorporating locally sourced clay and glaze materials from the surrounding moorland. She crafts lively, warm pots designed to bring comfort and enjoyment to everyday use.

Jessica has been making pottery for ten years. She completed a three-year apprenticeship with Walter Storey (Harrow Studio Pottery Course 1972–74), where she learned the art of throwing domestic tableware and developed a deep understanding of the alchemy behind glaze making.
