The Moon Booth

Enchanted City, Light Festival Commission

The Moon Booth

About The Project

Enchanted City is a new annual winter event, and for its inaugural year visitors were invited to discover the science behind the stars, the beauty of the constellations, and the thrill of space exploration. Northumbria University’s City Campus was transformed into a universe of light, art, performance, and cosmic wonder, offering a brand-new after-dark adventure.

Over four unforgettable nights, from Thursday 11th December to Sunday 14th December, guests explored a world where creativity met the stars. As they wandered, they encountered illuminated astronomers charting imaginary skies, sculptures twirling like satellites in orbit, and immersive installations celebrating the magic of the night sky.

Green Croft arts were commissioned to bring The Moon Booth to Enchanted City as part of their Make & Take Workshops Programme.

The Moon Booth brings a beloved piece of vintage Americana back to life. Inspired by the iconic “paper moon” photo booths that charmed fairgoers from the late 19th to mid-20th century, this handcrafted installation invites visitors to climb onto a crescent moon, choose a prop, strike a pose and capture a moment of pure theatrical fun. Enchanted City visitors left with a charming keepsake print—plus digital copies on our Facebook page.

We had an amazing response to bringing the Moon Booth to the festival, taking over 400 photos across the 4 nights.

We absolutely loved this and came away with a lovely photo to remember the day. Hope they will be back next year
One of the highlights of our evening getting our photos taken!
Yay, I love ours, thanks! A really beautiful memory of a magical night
