About the Event

Andrew Cadie is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer who inhabits a crossroads between the traditional folk music of his native Northumberland and the words and sounds of the vinyl heyday. His own writing and performance style is deeply informed by an enormous internalised repertoire of traditional work songs, roots and soul, fiddle and pipe tunes and even some psychedelic rock.

As a teenager in the 1990s, busking this material during his formative years, powerful elements of all of these styles have merged in to a distinctive and highly personal blend. Having now toured all over Europe and played everywhere from Glastonbury festival to cozy living rooms, Andrew Cadie knows how to bring organic acoustic music to a modern audience.

His 2025 album, Flooding the Ocean has been nominated for the German Record Critics’ Prize and tracks are being played on radio in Germany, the UK and beyond.
Best known as one half of the successful duo, Broom Bezzums, Andrew Cadie’s solo show is marked out by his powerful live-energy and engaging stage-presence. Audiences in small venues and at large festivals have already been wowed with everything from stomping guitar anthems, intense fiddle-singing renditions and wild dance tunes, culminating in standing ovations and multiple encores.

Based in Germany, Andrew is continues to tour with Broom Bezzums, who are in their 20th year. However, during pandemic live-streams Andrew found a new type of joy in the intensity of facing an audience alone. He started crafting a set with brand new songs for a parallel career as a solo-performer. Keep Hauling, the modern-day shanty Andrew wrote in his kitchen while frying eggs, is probably his best-known song to date. It was covered by Devonian acoustic supergroup, Show of Hands and used by Cornish shantymen, Fishermans Friends in their eponymous film before Broom Bezzums recorded it themselves. Andrew now even has a solo “cover version” of his own song!

“A musical cultural treasure under a new star: His often highly virtuosic guitar accompaniments greatly enhance these melodies, creating ballad-like psychograms and moods that move us because they seem so authentic and alive.”

– Die Rheinpfalz (Germany)

"He's a musician with an ear for a finely tuned melody - his playing is both sensitive and crafted... Soulful, evocative, lyrically convincing songs."

- The Living Tradition (UK)

"Open mouths and sheer amazement... Fingerpicking, slide on the steel guitar, devilishly fast violin playing and getting the audience to laugh, stomp their feet and sing along... Andrew Cadie can do it all."

- RNZ (Germany)
