This September, the Hadrian’s Wall Art Trail – FOLK will transform three unique venues into vibrant showcases of contemporary art inspired by the folklore, legends, and landscapes of West Northumberland and East Cumbria. From Roman myths and Border Reiver tales to botanical folklore and imagined folk creatures, each work responds in its own way to the stories rooted in this landscape.
Over 25 artists from across the North East and Cumbria will be presenting paintings, sculpture, textiles, prints, photography, and mixed-media works in:
The Threshing Barn, Green Croft On The Wall, Gilsland, CA8 7EL
Field Shelter, Bridge House, Shield Hill, Haltwhistle NE49 9NW
Abbey Mill, Lanercost, Brampton CA8 2HG
Follow the trail across three weekends in September and discover how today’s artists bring old stories to life in new ways. Each week there will be additional participatory activities and delicious refreshments available at each venue. So take your time and make a day of it.
About the Organisations
The Hadrian’s Wall Art Trail is a collaboration between three arts organisations who all live and work along the Wall: Green Croft Arts Ltd, Field Shelter CIC, and Echo Events CIC. Each brings a unique creative vision rooted in place. From Green Croft Arts’ cultural and wellbeing hub at The Threshing Barn in Gilsland, to Field Shelter’s off-grid artist-led studio near Haltwhistle, to Echo Events’ community-focused arts and performance projects in Lanercost, we share a passion for connecting people with the rich heritage, stories, and landscapes of Hadrian’s Wall.
