New Floor

Kit Haigh

All hands on deck for the big pour.

Our existing barn floor was a mixturre of earth, uneven flagstones and agricultural concrete. Builder Robert Ridley lifted the flags (keeping them aside for future use), broke up the concrete, then removed all those tons of material with a digger and a dumper truck. The heavy machinery was a tight fit past the scaffolding outside our big doors! Then down went hardcore, sand, plenty of insulation, vapur barrier and finally the new concrete slab. Drainage for the new toilet went in at the same time. The ready-mix truck was too big to bring close to the barn, so it was all hands on deck barrowing all that wet concrete from the gate into the building. after some skillful spreading and leveling, it was time to walk away and let it dry...
