A gentle form of yoga that can be done while sitting and moving to standing using a chair for support. It can improve your flexibility, balance, concentration and strength, while boosting your mood and reducing stress and joint strain.
Chair Yoga is a chair based movement class which incorporates yoga, dance, pilates. This class cultivates awareness of the body, maintains bone and muscle function and offers deep relaxation through meditation, breath work, and gentle stretches all without the stress of getting up and down off the floor. We begin with Pranayama (breathing), and then a range of seated strengthening and stretching asanas (poses), followed by seated movement sequences for coordination and memory. We come to standing and work on our balance and then finish with a guided relaxation/meditation to relax our mind.
The chair is used for seated postures and meditation and also for greater stability in standing and balance postures. You will also learn techniques to calm the mind and body that can be practiced anywhere. All levels and abilities are welcome. We will be using chairs, wear comfortable clothes to move in. Don't forget the water to keep you hydrated.
